Commemorative debut FESN video released in September,’95. Borderless appearances of pro and am skaters from all over the country who we met through contests and street skating. High-light of the video has to be Keishi Tsuchiya’s part with technique and stylish skating. Also features “T-19” with Akira Ozawa who entered and won so many contests in the 90s, refined skating by the best skate team of all times “New Type”, footages of street skaters from Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka, etc. For music, improvised turntable play by DJ Red, who was the youngest member of a DJ unit “Kemuri Production” lead by DJ Krush. Improvised turntable play recorded while watching the footages in a studio made the footages more live.

Second video for FESN released in February’96. Appearances by many amateur skaters including the ones from regions outside of Tokyo, bringing out the unknowns. In the rookie section, Tokyo Nakano activist Satoru Kuribayashi and from Ikebukuro, big stairs with flip tricks, Munekazu Kitajima were featured. Kyushu tour with Tokyo Z Boys and OWN includes a perfect run at Fukuoka 2 SKATES contest finals taken by Takaoki Hashimoto. For BGM, it starts off with REAL LIVE “REAL LIVE SHIT”, followed by Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis, Tom Scott, and so on. Improvised DJ play was put together to the footages in the last video, but this time, footages were put together to the music.

　

First video for Osaka clothing brand EXPRESSION released in June,’97.Edited by FESN with each skaters having their own part. Team includes Tatsuya Nogami, Ryuichi Okumura, Kazuto Shimizu, Ryuichi Tanaka, Ichitaro Okamoto, Nobuhide Otani, vert rider Eita Kanemoto, last but not least, Takaoki Hashimoto proving his talent in contests and demos, his part makes the quality of the video higher. As for friends section, many top skaters from Tokyo area appear, like Mizuto Watanabe, Shin Okada, Hirotaka Akaguma, and so on. Sound for some sections were selected by DJ BILL DAVIS, who was in charge of sound in “東西南北”.

Third video for FESN released in March’97. If you saw the first and second video, it’s obvious that this is the video that has lead the direction for FESN by all means. Tracks and mix by DJ BILL DAVIS and DJ RED was used in the first half of the video.(DJ RED was in charge of the turntable play in the debut video[FAR EAST SKATE NETWORK]) In the last half, DJ BILL DAVIS’s solo works were used. Not only both sound of first and last half develops non-stop like the skate footages from all over the country, it was a challenge to attempt a whole new visual expression by using a hiphop form, master mix. All sounds were analog master recorded with 1 inch open reel. Real time linear editing using 2 switchers at the same time, it gave the editing more improvisation. As you can see from the title, the video covers top pros and ams from all over the country, including Kunjiro Eguchi, transplant from New Zealand Simon Locket and Masafumi Kjitani from Osaka who did the first 50-50 on a Shinjyuku handrail. Covering all skaters from regions out side Tokyo who barely had exposures, it was overwhelming to see the highly-motivated Hiroshima section. At last of the video, it also contains a short but strong street footage by Takaoki Hshimoto and a studio session by a hardcore band, ”NEO MASTER”.

This is a visual piece made for the purpose of a CD-ROM attached to a free culture magazine, “Future Original”. As you can see from the title, best takes between ’95 and ’98 were put together without a back track. Raw sound grinding concrete, the fricative sound of wheels and asphalt. Metal sound of handrail. Flipping sound, the wind. Various sounds are made at the scene. A documentary piece focusing on the reality of skateboarding itself. Not released to public.

A visual piece produced by FESN introduced in Candy Video Magazin’98. Featuring all skaters from OWN, especially smooth skating by Shinnosuke Yonesaka, Koichi Owada, Takeshi Takahashi and Wataru Nagashima stands out. DJ YAS, a producer known for Japanese hiphop masterpiece ”SHO-GEN”, was featured for the back track giving warm groove and hard beat. Not only a monochrome skate video. A life style movie of OWN.

A short promo made for Eight Distribution in’97. Kansai underground skate team SANT founded in’95, and Kobe wheel company LINE founded in’97, 2promos were packaged in one. Wasn’t for sale, but some were delivered through distributor.「」by Ninja Tune was used for SANT. Fast street skating and sound reflects the individualities and at the same time, a well balanced team. As for LINE, break beats made by a track maker 「玲」from Kobe was used. A raw hiphop tune piece.

First Tokyo live by THA BLUE HERB from Sapporo that took place at Roppongi Core on May 2,’99. The live was a great success that it made their charge much easier than before. With live sound recorded by the organizer and footages filmed by 2 cameras by chance, the video came into existence. No special effects nor filters, pure document of what happened on May 2,’99-“THE DAY”. The passion and the message toward their music without decoration. On ”THE DAY”, beats by O.N.O and words by BOSS THE MC(later ILL-BOSTINO) as one lead FESN production to make a piece other than skate video for the first time. Commemorative first music piece.

This is practically the 4th FESN skate video produced in December 2000. 45 months of filming skaters from all over the country, it was premiered at a theater, which was the first time for a domestic skate video. All music used in this video were made by artists and creators that Takahiro Morita met while filming in various places. Like the last video, a total of 150 Japanese skaters appear, introducing Okinawa skate scene through media for the first time. Obscure skaters like Gou Miyagi and Makoto Uehara were featured in Okinawa section, it was as if they were bringing up Japanese skate scene at the time to the next level. The title “43-26” means latitude 43 degrees, longitude 26 degrees on a world map , “JAPAN”.

A remix version of “43-26” with unused footages. Combining dance music and visual groove made by putting together footages, it was a whole different approach from the original version. The running time of the original was 60minutes whereas in “The Bootleggers” 25minutes,breaking barriers of skate videos based on a skate video format. The first full digitally mastered editing for FESN.

Unrivaled sound creator/producer of Japan, CALM. The final live event of a tour that took place at Tokyo Ebisu Garden Hall on September 22,’03. With total of 21 musicians, an unprecedented big stage event was held as “Calm featuring Moonage Electric Big Band”. Running electric sound and dancing live instruments. Light and darkness. A combination of ensemble and orchestration was seen. The event drew an audience of 1800 people, making the largest concert hall in Tokyo a full house even though it was their first tour. This is a document of the night, an event that lasted over 2hours, “THE COWARDLY BOY AIN’T STAND AL-ONE”. From studio rehearsals from days before, a rehearsal right before the event, and through his live act, a sincere attitude of Calm can be seen. 9cameras give the full details of the event, a big band having Calm as the core melting together as one. Making the most of a tremendous amount of footages filmed by FESN and THA BLUE HERB-live footages, off-shots, studio recordings, precious footages before their first album, and interviews. THA BLUE HERB, who suddenly appeared and raged through the country-who are they? What are the intensions to their message? 140minuts of their operations that had never been seen on film. No cheap tricks nor artifices, just pure 1/1 scale of bare ”THA BLUE HERB”.

A video focusing on FESN home ground Nakano and an existing local skate shop “FAT BROS” released in July,’05. A documentary film of THA BLUE HERB, “THAT’S THE WAY HOPE GOES” was also released simultaneously. This is an exposure of elements of FAT BROS skaters, friends and musicians. A new type art format combining skating, fashion, club music, sense of humor, sampling art and lifestyle. A video that humorously portrays things that can not be seen in a normal skate video with an eye of FESN-behind the skate scene of today which takes skate tricks as first priority. Sequal of "BEHIND THE BROAD", a dvd focusing on a skate shop FAT BROS in Nakano, Tokyo. 38 minutes of aggressive skating with 4 newly sponsored skaters: Yuzo Kudo with good flip tricks and style as seen in "UNDERGROUND BROADCASTING". An old rookie 30 year old Akira fujimoto, originally from Kochi, skating for 20 years and still keeps progressing his bank and tranny skills. Kenji Nakahira, an ollie master originally from Kochi as well, displaying his rare physical talent here in Nakano. Masakazu Aiso, a Numazu, Shizuoka habitat recovering from 2 year blank due to a knee injury, busting his technical tricks. Also includes full length parts by: Takahiro Morita, director of this dvd and still seeking for new tricks and his original skate style and Yoshiharu Yoshida, who puts most importance on street skating. A total skate video format. Jazz sounds produced by Taichi, who made the track for ending section in "43-26" are used for BGM Jazz musicians were gathered specially for this dvd, recording their session watching the footages from the dvd. A debut DVD 'Collective Improvisation' from a domestic wheel company Strush Wheels has been released. The team members are from Kobe, Osaka and Tokyo, and Takahiro Morita of FESN rides for the company as well. All the skaters featured in this video are worth watching, but most of all, the relationship between Morita and DJ Baku is the highlight. Combining samplings from hip-hop to break beats and with his scratch technique, DJ Baku brings us his new track 'Evil Escape Dance' exclusively for Morita's part. With the track playing in the back, Morita skates freely beyond all types of skating today. Although he seems like his just playing around as if he's saying, "It's only skating", you can definitely see the skills. Music and skating, the two are from different genres, but they have no doubt in what they're pursuing.
The part looks like they've improvised everything, and you will also feel the calculation behind it.

Director Takahiro Morita has been shooting skate films since 1995 as FESN (Far East Skate Network) with his stoic camera angle, precise editing and music that give color to the films. He had been scattering his ideas that he got from skating into all of his films as message. This is how he reflects skating in his films. 'Overground Broadcasting' is the culmination of what he had been doing since 95. This film is a sequel to 'Underground Broadcasting' that was released in 06, and the theme is the World. Morita traveled and filmed the local scenes of the world for about 8 years since 2001. The package will store 'Underground Broadcasting' and 'Overground Broadcasting' together, making it look like a skate dictionary. FESN had released 'Subway', 'Touzainamboku' and '43-26' since 95, and is now setting a new world standard. Yes, skating was originally from abroad. But the skating and audio-visual skills has evolved in Japan as time passed. The FESN skate philosophy, looking at overground from the perspective of underground, was born. This is a new definition of Japanese skateboarding, "from Japan to the World".

Music gives color to the scenes and footages of FESN. All the tracks used in the film had been compiled by Morita himself. Starting with Tha Blue Herb and DJ Baku, cutting edge/new type artists are featured. Artists that Morita encountered in his 8 years of filming abroad are also featured in the soundtrack. His vision of music has literally spread worldwide by using not only independent artists in Japan, but also the artists abroad. Hip-hop, break beats, house, techno, jazz, dub, reggae, death metal, kind-of-like-anime songs, sound effects…
There is no border in music. This is a soundtrack, stimulating the vision by sound. Radiating images to brain cells by sound. Even if you haven't seen the film, some kind of image will be visualized when you listen to this soundtrack; this is totally a new chemical reaction. The soundtrack also features music made by skaters like OPSB; an original ideas of skaters are broadening the possibilities of skateboarding.
